Combined Strength

Strengthening Canadian insurance reciprocals by sharing their combined wisdom, experience, and innovation through:

– Annual events
– Full-access to valuable online resources
– Local meetups to share knowledge, best practices and experience
– Sharing of effective strategies in furthering reciprocal interests with provincial regulators

How it works

Reciprocal insurance enables a pool of similar professionals or organizations to share their individual risks with one another as a group and actively look for ways to reduce losses for their members.

Typically, reciprocals help ensure that their members (or subscribers) have affordable access to specialized insurance products either difficult to place or not available through the conventional insurance markets.

Given that subscribers within a particular reciprocal tend to provide similar services and share similar risks, the reciprocal advantage revolves around the development of effective and specialized risk management programs. Similarly, subscribers have incentives to work together and share information that can improve the quality of services they provide.

We care for Canadians.

The Canadian Association of Insurance Reciprocals (CAIR) was founded in 2010 by five Reciprocals.

With seed funds and staff support from the original 5 members, CAIR offered a space for Canadian Reciprocals to have a voice, share valuable knowledge, learn and grow.

At its roots, CAIR is about community support – support for CAIR members as well as for the many communities our members serve.

Today, the association is now comprised of over 17 unique reciprocals from across Canada.

So, what do our members all have in common?

Strengthening Canada’s insurance reciprocals, pools, captives, fraternal benefit societies, or similar risk-sharing programs or pools operating in Canada by sharing combined wisdom, experience, and innovation Promoting well-informed and effective government regulation to the members Educating communities about the advantages of reciprocal insurance
